My name is Mayté, I am Boston based artist. I work with gouache paint, watercolor and mixed media by way of hand-bound art journals and beaded jewelry. Occasionally I make digital art and capture still moments with my camera.
I have been creating my whole life, whether it was making fairy houses in the bushes, crafting, painting, collaging, or doodling in the margins of my homework. Art was the only subject I was interested in and was the thing that I felt connected me to myself.
My work is influenced by relationships between people, nature, ancestors and spirit. I source from my personal experiences of being Afro-Latina, intersecting transracial adoption, abandonment, loss, trauma, identity, and self-reclamation. My art practice is how I care for and love myself.
